Longines Hong Kong International Races 2017

The Swiss watch brand Longines was proud to return for the 6th consecutive year as Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of the Longines Hong Kong International Races, one of the most exciting climaxes of the international horseracing year. Longines had the pleasure to reward the winners of the four international Group 1 races with elegant Longines timepieces. Highland Reel ridden by 2014 and 2016 Longines World’s Best Jockey Ryan Moore claimed the Longines Hong Kong Vase (2400m), while Mr Stunning led by Nash Rawiller triumphed in the Longines Hong Kong Sprint (1200m). The Longines Hong Kong Mile (1600m) saw the victory of Beauty Generation and Derek Leung Ka-chun. As for the much-anticipated Longines Hong Kong Cup (2000m), it was won by Time Warp led by Zac Purton, winner of the 2017 Longines International Jockeys’ Championship on Wednesday.

This year, the spectators had another surprise to look forward to with the presence at the races of Longines Ambassador Eddie Peng. Perfectly reflecting the brand’s motto “Elegance is an Attitude”, the Taiwanese actor presented the Longines Prize for Elegance, which rewards the lady in attendance with the most stylish look. Earlier that day, the Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng paid a visit to Longines’ Star House boutique, where he could meet his fans and sign some autographs. In addition, he received the Official Watch of the Longines Hong Kong International Races, a model from the Record Collection, aspiring to become the spearheads of the brand. Besides, this timepiece, which combines classic elegance and excellence, as well as Eddie Peng, are featured in the brand’s latest TV spot, currently broadcast in the entire Asian continent.

Australian Hugh Bowman receives the 2017 Longines World’s Best Jockey Award in Hong Kong

After dominating for the majority of the season, Australia’s Hugh Bowman claimed the “2017 Longines World’s Best Jockey” award, which was presented to him tonight during the Longines International Hong Kong Races Gala Dinner. Besides this prestigious title, Bowman received an elegant Longines timepiece as well as a replica of the crystal vase which will be engraved with his name, alongside the previous winners, Ryan L. Moore and Lanfranco “Frankie” Dettori, who incidentally finished second and third in this year’s competition.

The Australian jockey won 10 of the world’s Top 100 Group/Grade 1 races, and six of those victories came aboard Winx, who was celebrated as the third-highest rated racehorse in the world in 2016 and is currently the highest rated turf horse in the world in the 2017 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings. Amongst Bowman’s great wins, five races were timed by Longines, including the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick and the Japan Cup in association with Longines at Tokyo Racecourse, which secured Bowman the victory for the 2017 “Longines World Best Jockey” title.

The Longines World’s Best Jockey Award is a proud joint initiative of Longines and the IFHA.  It is based upon performances in the 100 highest-rated Group/Grade 1 international races as established for the year by the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee. The scoring incorporates races from 1 December of the previous year until 30 November of the current year.  Jockeys accrue 12 points for a win, 6 points for placing second, and 4 points for placing third.

The prestigious gala dinner of the Longines Hong Kong International Races also served as the perfect occasion for the Swiss watch brand to present its new TV Spot featuring Longines Ambassador and Asian superstar Eddie Peng, who will be attending the races for the second time, after his presence during the 2014 edition. The TV spot highlights the Official Watch of the event, a model from the Record collection. Combining classic elegance and excellence, this line aspires to become the spearheads of the brand.

Longines World’s Best Jockey Award

Creating a build-up to the Longines Hong Kong International Races, the Longines International Jockey’s Championship each year invites twelve world-class jockeys from all over the globe to take part in four intense rounds of racing. The jockey accumulating the biggest score is crowned the winner of the championship. With 24 points, Zac Purton claimed the coveted title, taking home the first prize as well as a Longines timepiece. Silvestre de Sousa finished second with 18 points, followed by Pierre-Charles Boudot with 16 points.
The Longines International Jockey’s Championship is not the only occasion to celebrate the jockeys this week, as will take place on Friday December 8, during the annual Longines Hong Kong International Races Gala dinner, the “Longines World’s Best Jockey Award” ceremony. This prize, a proud initiative from Longines and the IFHA, honours the jockey who has scored the most points throughout the year in the 100 highest-rated Group One and Grade One races, from 1 December 2016 to 30 November 2017.

As the Title Partner and Official Timekeeper of Longines International Jockeys’ Championship, the Swiss watch brand was proud to highlight its new Record collection, launched at the occasion of the brand’s 185th anniversary. Daniel Deusser reigned supreme at the Longines Masters of Paris

After four days of intense competition, the Longines Masters of Paris ended this Sunday afternoon at the Parc des Expositions Paris-Nord Villepinte. As the Title Partner and the Official Timekeeper of the Longines Masters series, the Swiss watch brand Longines was proud to lend its name to two key competitions of the weekend. The Longines Grand Prix, which took place on Sunday afternoon, was won hands down by Daniel Deusser riding Cornet d’Amour. Simon Delestre on Hermes Ryan and Lauren Hough on Ohlala reached the second and third step of the podium respectively. On Friday night, French rider Julien Epaillard on Cristallo A LM finished first at the Longines Speed Challenge ahead of Kevin Staut riding Ayade de Septon et HDC and Lorenzo de Luca riding Limestone Grey. In addition, Longines has also been for the first time Founding Partner of the Riders Masters Cup, an innovative show-jumping competition that pits the two major equestrian powers, the United States and Europe, against each other in a never before seen transatlantic battle.

Longines has chosen this prestigious event in the show jumping calendar for the French launch of its new model Conquest V.H.P. “Very High Precision”, which represents a new achievement in the field of quartz, combining great precision, high technicality and a sporty look, marked by the brand’s unique elegance. Equipped with an exclusive movement renowned for its high degree of precision for an analog watch (± 5 s/yr) and its ability to reset its hands after an impact or exposure to a magnetic field, using the GPD (gear position detection) system, the Conquest V.H.P. has thus positioned itself as the standard-bearer of extreme precision.

This event combining glamour and top-level sport performances was also a good opportunity for the winged hourglass brand to invite two of its Longines Ambassadors of Elegance. The actress and model Chi Ling Lin took advantage of her visit to the French capital to stop at the Longines shop at the Printemps Haussmann and participate in a meet and greet with her fans, before attending the Longines Speed Challenge at the Parc des Expositions Paris-Nord Villepinte. On her side, jumping rider Jane Richard attended the French launch of The Conquest V.H.P. at the Faubourg St-Honoré Longines Boutique.

The elegance of the heart was also at the center of this first stage of the Longines Masters. Indeed, Longines and EEM have supported the association "Sur les Bancs de l’Ecole" and handed the official check combining all the donations received during the event. This association, of which Longines is the Honorary Patron during the Longines Masters of Paris, helps children affected by autism. The program specifically developed for this occasion is based on interaction between children and horses and helps them to have a normal life and a chance of making their dreams come true.

In addition, the Swiss watch brand also supported JustWorld International, through the "Longines Clear the Jump" activity realized during the Longines Grand Prix. On this occasion, 200 meals were offered each time the Longines jumps were cleared. Thanks to this action, Longines helped to offer 5000 meals to the beneficiaries of JustWorld International's actions. Since the beginning of the partnership, donations from Longines have funded more than 140,000 meals for some of the most vulnerable children in the world.

After a particularly successful start to the season, the Longines Masters will continue from February 9 to 11, 2018 in Hong Kong, before ending – for the first time in their history – in New York, from April 26 to 29, 2018.
